Dear reader,

The ISEE- ISES-ISIAQ/Environment & Health Conference 2013 in Basel, Switzerland, hosted by Swiss TPH is just around the corner.

More than 1700 participants from all over the world have registered for the conference promising an exciting and varied event. The program includes a wide range of topics covering all areas of interest of the three societies.

With this conference we aimed to explore further ways of organizing an environmentally sustainable event. For more information read the newly released Editorial in Environmental Health Perspectives.

It is also our pleasure to inform you about the Editorial by Alan Lopez, just published on line by the International Journal of Public Health (IJPH) in reference to the Global Burden of Disease; the GBD is the key topic of the Swiss TPH Opening Plenary held on Tuesday Aug 20 at 8:45h. Key note speakers are Majid Ezzati (Imperial College) and Nicole Probst-Hensch (SwissTPH).

We are also happy to inform you about the decision of the >400 conference participants who acted as jury to select the IJPH Conference Award. 35% voted for the review by Louis-François Tétreault and co-authors:
"Cardiovascular health, traffic related air pollution and noise: are associations mutually confounded? A systematic review".
All eight accepted reviews are now online at IJPH (also see Editorial related to the awarded manuscript by Maria Foraster).

On behalf of Swiss TPH and the International Organization Committee of ISEE, ISES, and ISIAQ we send you our very best regards,

Nino Kuenzli, Chair of the Conference, Deputy Director Swiss TPH
Martin Roosli, Co-Chair of the Conference and Unit Head at Swiss TPH
